El Kabong

Today I was on the Chinatown bus from Philly to DC and a two-thousand dollar electric oud fell out of the sky onto my head.  The person whose oud it was immediately started asking if I was okay, and I immediately started asking if his oud was okay.

I was worried my amazingly durable skull would have destroyed his expensive instrument, and he didn?t know how strong my head was, so he was worried about my brain or something.

But we both were worried for nothing because my brain was fine and the oud was fine.  Then we talked about his career as a musician and he told me about touring.  It was cool.

  • Wow. I was also hit in the head recently, but rather with a double-decked key-tar. So I guess more of a pipe-organ-tar. Anyway, an eagle stole it from me before I could return it to the passing modern troubadour. I wonder what ever happened to him…

  • How was the bus ride down to DC? I recently made the trip from Philly(that is where you reside I believe) to DC and train was cheaper and a much shorter ride. Plus, you get to ride trains so it feels like you are living in the past!  Much shorter means the train ride was about 2 hours, the bus ride was scheduled to take 17 hours or something crazy.

  • In the words of Meat Loaf, “That’s no way to treat an expensive musical instrument!”

Here’s some chick doing a lip dub of that bit.

  • The bus ride was awesome.  It was a straight shot from Philly to DC so it took about two and a half hours.  I don?t know what trains you are riding, but the Chinatown Express is super cheap.  You can get to DC for 14 bucks, and the guy whose oud fell on my head told me where I can get the tickets even cheaper.

I live in Wilmington, DE and take the train up to Philly every day, so I guess I?m just living in the past generally.

  • I am SHOCKED you didn’t bust up that oud all over the place.  Must’ve missed the pointy part of your head.

  • After reading the book Musicophilia, my first question must be:
Did the blow to your brain cause a sudden development of musical hallucination in the form of oud sounds?
